Learn what executive function is and the connection between executive function and imaginative play and why that is important for development in our children. Discover schema theory and how loose parts/open ended materials support schemas and executive function.

This is a concept from the Reggio Emilia approach and looks at children as capable and competent. Educators and parents that participant in this training will learn strategies for improving relationships with a child and/or children, learn about meta theories, and identify their own biases that relate to teaching, parenting, and creating environments for children.

You will learn how to write a Learning Story, an authentic, story based assessment from New Zealand, to support children in discovering their strengths and unique way of learning. Learning Stories spotlight how children are natural learners, eager investigators, and problem solvers.

Parents and teachers will be introduced to and learn how to create for themselves Robin Christie’s three big ideas - 1. Protected Spaces - any space that allows children to play without interruption, 2. Creating environments that EMPOWER children and, 3. Celebrating the CONNECTION of children with natural spaces and natural materials.

The environments of Reggio Emilia are aesthetically pleasing, beautiful, and use nature as a model and guide to create spaces that allow for curiosity, wonder, and exploration. In this training, parents and teachers will learn how to make their own unique, ever evolving environments that are specific to their child or group of children that have endless potential and possibilities.

Educators and parents (the child’s first teachers) will learn about principles from my business ‘Image of the Educator,’ including Belonging and Connection, Balance and Wellbeing, Wonder and Exploration, Communication and Collaboration, and Purpose and Contribution. We will embrace and project a fuller image of early childhood educators and parents of young children.
